چکیده

Heart failure (HF) continues to impose a major public health burden.1 Whereas considerable improvements in HF treatment have resulted from clinical trials, epidemiological investigations complement clinical trials by enhancing our ability to identify individuals at risk and, in turn, facilitate the development of interventions aimed at the primary prevention of HF. Accordingly, there have been several noteworthy advances to date in the epidemiology of heart failure and subclinical myocardial disease, which are summarized below.

Mechanical device-based methods of managing and treating heart failure.

Despite advances in pharmacological treatments aimed at neurohormonal blockade for heart failure in the setting of left ventricular pump dysfunction, there is still a growing number of patients with advanced symptoms who suffer significant morbidity and mortality. Mechanical stresses and chronic neurohormonal activation conspire to propagate maladaptive ventricular remodeling responsible for th...

Pathological ventricular remodeling: mechanisms: part 1 of 2.

Despite declines in heart failure morbidity and mortality with current therapies, rehospitalization rates remain distressingly high, substantially affecting individuals, society, and the economy. As a result, the need for new therapeutic advances and novel medical devices is urgent. Disease-related left ventricular remodeling is a complex process involving cardiac myocyte growth and death, vasc...

Left ventricular dysfunction with pulmonary hypertension: Part 1: epidemiology, pathophysiology, and definitions.

T he worsening heart failure (HF) epidemic and the associated healthcare costs pose a major burden to public health and the healthcare system. 1 Despite significant therapeutic advances, outcomes for patients with HF remain sub-optimal. 2–4 Importantly, most clinical trials with novel agents in HF during the past decade have yielded neutral or modest results. 5 The reasons for these unfavorable...

The Effect of Cardiac Rehabilitation on Left Ventricular Remodeling in Men and Women Patients with Coronary Artery Disease

Objective: Left ventricular (LV) remodeling is associated with increased morbidity and mortality therefore, interventions that halt or reverse ventricular remodeling are expected to prevent these clinical outcomes. The aim of the study was to assess the effects of cardiac rehabilitation program on cardiac remodeling process in patients with coronary artery disease and then compare the results b...
